Call for Projects

We are looking for businesses and organisations who want to transform empty shops and underused spaces in the Fargate and High Street area to create long term solutions.

Eligible projects could receive a grant for capital works of up to £50,000.

Covid-19 has had a profound effect on businesses in our city centre. Lockdowns and restrictions have limited trade and we have seen a decline in footfall and an increase in vacancy rates. We need to support our city centre to bring vibrant and animated interventions.

Over the next couple of years, Fargate and High Street will be transformed via funding secured from the Governments Future High Streets Fund, SYMCA and Sheffield City Council.

The top of Fargate will have a landscaped performance space with supporting infrastructure for events. There will be further green spaces for smaller activities, outdoor seating for businesses and routes for children’s play and discovery.

Sheffield City Council has acquired 20-26 Fargate to create a brand-new cultural venue right in the centre of our city. ‘Event Central’ will include a music venue, exhibition spaces and creative and digital workspaces. The five-storey building will be home to an all-year-round programme of culture and events.

To complement this, we are making an open call to businesses and organisations looking to secure funding for retail, food and beverage, leisure, hospitality or arts and culture projects.

Eligible projects could benefit from a grant for capital works of up to £50,000. Projects are required to be in the Fargate and High Street area only, please see the map of eligible area for proposed ReNew projects.
